Update as of 02/25/26: RTP® Version 5.0 Successfully Deployed to Production

The Clearing House (TCH) has officially completed the production deployment of RTP® 5.0, marking an important update to the RTP network. According to TCH, this deployment was one of the quickest migrations they have supported, reflecting strong industry readiness and coordination across participants.

RTP 5.0 Key Updates

RTP Version 5.0 introduces enhancements designed to support the continued evolution of instant payments, with a focus on flexibility, risk visibility, and richer messaging across the RTP network. Key updates in this release include:

  • Expanded Credit Transfer framework to support future use cases and network growth, with enhanced participant and intermediary structures that prepare the RTP network for more complex payment flows.
  • Optional Payment Code support, allowing participants to indicate the purpose of a payment within RTP messages. This added context can improve downstream processing, reconciliation, and risk decisioning.
  • New Fraud Code (UAPA) added to the Request for Return of Funds process, enabling institutions to flag payments that were authorized by the customer but later alleged to be fraudulently induced, subject to applicable RTP rules.
  • Improved messaging consistency across RTP flows, supporting clearer data exchange and better alignment with modern payments hub architectures.

What This Means Going Forward

With RTP 5.0 now live, financial institutions have new ways to improve visibility and strengthen fraud oversight within real-time payments. Institutions can prepare for future use cases involving indirect domestic or cross-border participants, apply richer contextual data to strengthen fraud and risk models, and improve how scam-related disputes are categorized and investigated.

As adoption grows, it’s important to consider how these enhancements align with your overall payments strategy and day-to-day operations. Alacriti has completed the RTP 5.0 production deployment as part of its certification and maintenance commitments. For financial institutions working with Alacriti, this means the platform is already aligned with the latest network specifications, reducing upgrade burden and ensuring readiness for current and future RTP capabilities.
